This also reflects in changed requirements for transportation as more and more customers are asking for additional services with the delivery of goods.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Assembly services for goods
- Pick up and return of items
- Return of packaging
These additional services have to be taken into consideration for the order fulfillment process.
To achieve this there is a challenge to master.
Service requirements might vary within one tour. Therefore they have to be managed and taken into consideration individually. Besides the timing of stops, an additional need for managing the availability and responsibility of different resources has to be taken into consideration.
It might be the case that one delivery team is responsible for delivering and unloading goods whilst another team is responsible for additional services like assembly. In this case the use of SAP Transportation Management’s tools utilizing the Transportation Management planning and scheduling framework to achieve the harmonization of transportation and service requirements with an optimized tour- and assembly planning.
All transportation and service requirements will be planned on two timelines, one featuring transportation and one featuring service requirements. The calculated times for the end of the unloading activities at each stop on the transportation tour will mark the beginning of each service timeslot of the service tour. This enables you to have the timeslots for deliveries as well as for services harmonized and still be able to adjust them in case it is necessary. Furthermore transportation tours can be planned including non service stops to give the service team a chance to be at the next stop requiring services right on time.
Communication with the service teams as well as with the transportation teams can be made via App so the logistics planner is always informed in real time about the progress and can react to unforeseen events.
